The grade level that Sarah and I taught today was 12th grade, and we very much enjoy this setting because the students are a little more mature. For the class activity, we had the students read about different types of scams and perform skits displaying these scams. By role playing, the students are able to relate to the real life situation, and the class interaction helped everyone pay attention. I liked the teaching strategy that we used, but I would change how to transition between skits because I feel the students became a little too excited. With each skit, the students were given a note sheet to record tips on how to avoid these scams, and at the end of class we went through the sheet to review the lesson.
Sarah and I feel that classroom management is very crucial, and we both agree that yelling and discipline is not the answer. Even though we had fairly good control of the class, we both learned that we need to work on the sternness in our voices to gain the students attention faster. As the class winded down, we brought the lesson to a close by having the students share real life experiences they have encountered with scams.
